Abstract
The article examines the historical experience of the formation and development of personal subsidiary plots in Russia. On the basis of the study of the regularities of the formation of peasant farms, the main stages of their activity are identified with an assessment of the role of the state in them. Principal differences between peasant farms and public agricultural organizations are considered and the basic principles of the functioning of personal subsidiary plots at the first stages of their development are noted.
